Birds Hill Residence

Knitting a new landscape into an existing landscape was the challenge for this hilltop home in Needham.  JJLA worked with the clients to rehabilitate the existing landscape into a place to entertain, garden, and rest.  The wooden deck off the kitchen was expanded to take in the western views and the existing stone terraces were redesigned to create level areas for lounging and entertaining.  New stone walls designed to match the existing stone walls on site were used to create habitable space and hold up an area of falling topography.   The invasive plants have been cleared out of the downhill woodland and will be ready for installation of the understory layer of plants this spring.  An enlarged vegetable garden with new enclosure fencing create a place for gardening while keeping out unwanted animals.
